One of the two interviews I had last week for the same company came back with a response to my interview today and oh boy it was a goody. The reason they aren’t taking it any further was that the interviewer thought I was too much of a developer. Huh. I haven’t cut code for 15 years.
I’ve been testing software for 18 years, which I told the agent may have been longer than the interviewer. The agent said that was almost certainly the case. The agent also said that they regarded it as such a shoe-in, I’d worked there before, and got a great reference from one of their other members of staff, that they didn’t even think I would need to be interviewed, just told to turn up.
I have to assume that he hadn’t read my resume very well and just hadn’t realised how long I have been testing buggy code.

I had an interview with an insurance company in the city yesterday and the poor interviewer was very nervous (Isn’t that your job? Ed). I immediately thought what have I got to do to relax this guy.
I made the interview so down home and relaxed so he wasn’t intimidated and he then started to relax a bit, sorta. I think I gave him all the answers he wanted and he even asked me whether I wanted the job, but confidence ain’t high. The more he thinks about it the more he’s going to convince himself that I would take over his job, which just isn’t the case.
He’d been at the company since January and obviously still regarded himself as the new boy in the office. He was the test manager but I got the feeling he was a little shy on experience so the last thing he wants is me with too much experience. Less experience wanted here. I can’t wait to hear the bunch of words the agent has to concoct together to justify why the interview didn’t go anywhere.
