Belkin 802.11g adapter works in Vista, no thanks to Belkin
Posted by testcrunch on 6th June 2007
I bought a Belkin 802.11g USB wireless adapter to replace the D-Link that had failed.
Thought I would wait till I got home before I checked whether it was Vista compatible (Idiot. Ed).
Needless to say it wasn’t. But then neither was the 18 month old D-Link and that had worked. I tried installing the driver first, as the documentation said to do, and it just sat there doing nothing, minding its own business. No way was that gonna get up and dance. Hmmm..
Lets try plan B. I connected the Belkin to a USB socket without any driver having been installed, just like the documentation says you shouldn’t. Vista, bless its heart, recognised that there was new hardware and said to put the CD with the driver in the drive and it would find it. And it did. And it installed it. And it connected to the Internet. Well done Vista.
